24th January 2012
The Board of Management have welcome the feedback from the Dept of Education Inspectors following the recent WSE-MLL. The Inspectors reported very favourably on the quality of Teaching and Learning in the school and on the high level of Leadership and Management. The next stage of the process is for the draft written report to be forwarded to the school for verification prior to being fully published on the DES website.
Prior to the Christmas holidays the Student Achievement Awards were presented. The board congratulate all the recepiants and in particular James Cawley and James Hepton who both recieved the new Spirit of Moyne Award which is presented by the school Board. This award marks student who have "done the ordinary thing in an extra-ordinary way"
The Board have recognised the changes being proposed to the School Transport Scheme which include methods of application and eligibility criteria for free transport. The Board have agreed that full information will be provided to parents of incoming first years (the group to whom the changes apply) when it becomes fully available. The school will also provide full assistance to parents who are experiencing difficulties with the process.
A slight ammendment to the school Admissions Policy now means that those applying to transfer to Moyne from another school will not have to provide a written reference with their application. Three recent school reports must be provided with an application. Once a place in the school has been offered it will be conditional on a suitable reference then being provided.
Due to retirements the Board will shortly be advertising positions for substitute teachers for the remainder of the school year and for Assistant Principal posts. Details will appear in the vacancies section of this website.
28th February 2012
The Board wish to express their sincere best wishes and thanks to Mr Mark McGuckin, Mr Pat Redahan and Ms Loreto Gannon who retire on 29th February after a life time of service to Moyne Community School. The board acknowledge and recognise their contribution into making Moyne the success it is today. We wish them long life, health and happiness in their retirement
The recent Open Day for new first years and their parents and guardians was a huge success with over 130 enrolments for next September. The Board would like to commend both staff (teaching, Clerial and Ancillary) and pupils who gave time on a Sunday to make the day such a success and soaccessible to parents and families.
Continuing on from works of the last number of years the Board discussed a number of areas for work during the summer works. A schedule of works is being planned and will form part of our ongoing renovation and renewal works in the school.
As part of the works to the island a memorial to Fr McGee will be installed. Fr McGee was the first Principal of Moyne CS and the driving force behind its establishment. His passing at a young age was a big loss for the school and the community and it is fitting that he should be remembered in the school.
A discussion took place on cuts to education and the potential impact to all schools. The Board have agreed that every effort will be made to maintain subjects, courses and services. Decisions will be made over the coming months on how we can adapt with changing circumstance without adversely effecting our pupils.
The Board wish the SENO Ann Donnelly well on her retirement and thank her for her assistance over recent years.
27th March 2012
The Board have received the first Draft copy of the WSE-MLL. This is the Whole School Inspection - Management Leadership and Learning which took place last December. The members have checked the document for factual accuracy, which is the first requirement of the Board. This has been returned to the Inspectorate and we await the final version of the Inspectors report. In due course this Repot will be made public via the DES website.
Over Easter work will take place on the school gates. The Cattle will be removed and replace by a concrete ramp. The purpose of the ramp is to ensure traffic flows at a suitable speed.
The Board wish to congratulate the school Concern Debate Teams and our Transition Year Journalism student on their recent success.
24th April 2012
The Board have welcomed the significant announcement that the school has now been included in the first phase of the roll out of 100mB Broadband. Just over 200 schools have been chosen for this first phase. It is expected that the high speed provision will be in place in September or October 2012 at the very latest. Following on from the considerable IT investment made by the Board in recent years this news will allow the school to provide the best in educational infrastructure and facilities to all of our students.
The board wish to congratulate our TY enterprise students "Cord Up" in their success in reaching the All Ireland enterprise Competition and on gaining funding through the Young Social Innovators (YSI) Dragons Den awards. We also recognise the successes of our Showjumping team and 1st and 2nd year Basketball teams recently. Tribute was paid not only to the students participating but also to the teachering staff for giving so freely of their time to these activities.
The board have agreed that the Graduation Mass for the Leaving Certificate Class of 2012 will take place on Thursday 24th May.
