Decaman Visits Moyne
On Wednesday 25th of January Motivational Speaker Gerry Duffy visited the school to give a talk to the senior cycle students on their preparation for the Leaving Cert. He shared his inspirational story of running 32 marathons in 32 days and spoke of setting and achieving goals. A big thank you to Mr Duffy, the talk was truly inspiring.
Drama and Music Workshop
On Tuesday 24th the Performing Arts and Music Technology classes from the Cavan Institute conducted a workshop in the school. The TY and LCA classes took part in an afternoon of drama games and activities and a music workshop. Thank you to Peter O Hanlon and Sue King who hosted the workshops. A great day was had by all.
YSI
The YSI committee are working very hard at the minute, recruiting new volunteers for future projects in the school. The committee travelled to Carrick On Shannon on Friday 27th of January to present their work so far this year to other YSI groups from around the country. Keep up the good work! All students can keep up to date with the work of the YSI on the very colourful YSI board in the first mall.
LCA Exams
We would like to wish to LCA2 class the best of luck in their exams this week.
TY Enterprise
The TY Enterprise Class met with Sadie Wheatley of the Longford Enterprise Board on Friday 27th of January. Ms Wheatley spoke the students about their enterprise projects and offered them much valued advice. The group appreciated Sadie sharing her expertise in this area. Thank you on behalf of Mr Doherty and The TY classes.
Cavan Institute Talk
Philip McDonald from the Cavan Institute talked to Leaving Cert and LCA2 students on Thursday 26th of January. Students found the talk informative and interesting. Thanks to Ms Wrynn and Ms Killian for organising the talk.
Green Schools
The Green School’s committee are hard at work keeping the school clean and green at present, help them out and use the correct bins provided please!
Leaving Cert Chemistry
On Thursday 26th of Jan Ms Ferry brought her Chemistry students to NUI Maynooth to take part in Chemistry practicals. This is a great way of revising before the coming mock exams. Other schools also took part on the day at this annual event. A great day was had by all.
Ag Science Talk
On Friday 27th of January the Ag Science students attended a talk in the school on the opportunities in the area of forestry. Thank you to Mr Gollogly for organising the talk.
Sports News
Senior Boys Victory
Our senior boys had a great win against Tullamore in the North Leinster B Semi-Final on Wednesday last in St. Loman’s in Mullingar. The game started off well, with Moyne scoring 1-1 in the opening minutes. By half time, Moyne were well ahead with a score of 1-3 to 0-2. The second half began with the Moyne boys playing against gale force winds and heavy outbursts of rain. Due to great grit and determination from all, Moyne came out on top on a score line of 2-7 to 0-5. A great performance was displayed by, especially Johnathan Mc Cabe, Emmet Noonan, Gary Connell, Dean Cosgrave and captain Shane Clarke. Best of luck to the boys in their Leinster final in the upcoming weeks!
Girls Basketball
On Monday the 23rd, our first and second basketball girls faced Dundalk in their first match of the year. The game took place in the Mall complex Longford. Congratulations to the girls on their win and we hope that they can keep up their excellent performance in the upcoming matches.
Cross Country Running Competitions
For the first time in Moyne’s history, a team of 33 athletes attended the North Connaught schools cross country competitions on Thursday last. The event was held in Sligo Racecourse where students of all ages took part in the various cross country categories. We would like to congratulate all our students for taking part in the competition as weather conditions were tough, with outbursts of sleet throughout the day. Best of luck to our final qualifiers in the Connaught finals in the upcoming weeks!
Moyne CS Equestrian Team
Training will take place in Ross House Equestrian Centre on Friday 3rd of Feb in preparation for forthcoming the Interschool Showjumping in Mullingar.
